Just a cat

He was just a cat
How can you possibly
Cry about that?

Just a trill of greeting
A paw tap on the door
Eyes half-closed with joy
Small nose touching yours

Soft face rubbing lovingly
The fur which caught your tears
Kitten, adult, frail dependence
Friend of eighteen years.

Just a cat.

    1. Thank you, Ratika! When they get old, they become very dependent. Sooty went blind and would cry out because he couldn’t see me and thought I’d left him alone. I thought I loved him as an adult cat, but when he was frail and old I loved him even more.
